NOTABLE Serge Gainsbourg Serge Gainsbourg (1928 - 1991) was a French singer-songwriter, poet, actor and director. His ability to swagger through life in any artistic pursuit was something envied the world over. Although he was famous in France for many years it wasn’t until the song Je t’aime moi non plus that made him a household name. This famous song you will no doubt know from every second Australian advertising agency trying to promote something loosely related to Europe. His careless attitude and reckless abandonment only added fuel to the Serge Gainsbourg charisma, often being incredibly drunk on television performances, notably one later in his life with Whitney Houston. There was certain charm though that was irresistible to ignore and he had an uncanny ability to make a one-camera television performance look like a music video of a genius. His French style, deadpan look through those sleepy eyes and womanizing ways had girls weak at the knees and men struggling to work out his secret code. Take a look at the video below to see Serge in full swing, in his seducing singing days and then that famous Whitney moment. You don’t need to speak French to understand Serge’s agenda.
